The Poem of the Day Is Gone

« previous entry | next entry »

Yesterday was the last poem of the day that I am posting. The many reasons and strong feelings I have for it faded.

It's funny: I am scared. It was my touchstone. It was my routine. It was my daily workout. But now after nearly 5 years, it is over in its online incarnation*.

I love you and good night.

PS This doesn't mean I am not writing. It just means I'm not giving it away anymore.

*I put them on my rewritingovid.com website before moving to livejournal.

Never thought for a second you were stopping writing. I understand why you do not want to post the poems anymore though. I've definitely slowed that down.

Sorry you missed the show! I feel a little bad, talking it up to you and then deciding -- fuck it, I'm not doing this anymore.

Check out the old stuff if you're interested though.

I'll miss them.

I will continue posting nearly everything I write, myself. I still believe mightily in the attempt to break the hold of the copyright machine, and I still believe that the more people see my work, the more likely I'll be asked to publish them in other places. I haven't seen any level of shift in how much of my work is published or rejected as a result of doing this.

It's all about exposure to me...but that's me, and I don't even know if that's why you're doing this. But if it is, I respect that choice.

I got some exposure. But I plan to get it other ways. I was thinking of doing the monthly release of the best of under locked entries. Kind of delayed.

It's definitely not about the copyright machine. I think the ease of self-publication and duplication might bring down that monster all by itself.

I got published pretty well by doing this too, though mine were always locked.

If you're interested, my posting poems was:

1. I like to make poetry an everyday thing for readers as well as writers. You might be surprised, but this was one of my top reasons.
2. It kept me disciplined. I don't have that problem really.
3. It kept me going with some attention. But the silence gets deafening at times.
4. It was my work out.

ok, let me get this straight...
you are no longer "giving it away" and you "plan to get it otherways"...

do you need something from my garden?

It's not about copyright to me. But I was thinking I'd do something more retroactive. You know, stop the instant posting. Hold back and just put up the successful ones. So maybe there will be a once a month "best of" kind of thing here.
